Abstract

In this reflective article, veteran educator Tonya Skinner emphasizes the indispensable role of teachers in an era increasingly dominated by alternative instructional delivery methods, including online modules, simulations, and artificial intelligence. Despite the abundance of self-guided digital resources, Skinner argues that teachers remain essential in shaping meaningful learning experiences. She introduces the FAM framework—Facilitator, Advisor, and Motivator—as a guide for teachers to support student success in virtual and blended environments. As facilitators, teachers provide structure, pacing, and critical thinking prompts. As advisors, they personalize learning, guide mastery, and adjust strategies when students struggle. As motivators, teachers build relationships, offer encouragement, and foster a sense of belonging. Drawing from contemporary research, the article highlights how strong instructor presence correlates with academic performance and emotional well-being. Ultimately, Skinner reinforces that even in tech-rich settings, teachers are central to student engagement and achievement.
