Author Guidelines

The Journal of Research in Business Education is the journal of the National Business Education Association, Council for Business Teaching and Research. The scope of the journal is:

  • Original research in business disciplines (management, marketing, accounting, economics, entrepreneurship, finance, global business, information technology, human resources management, etc.)
  • Original research in business teacher preparation or business teaching and learning (instructional strategies, clinical practice, student teaching, edTPA, student organizations, etc.)
  • Applied research in business disciplines at the K-12 or post-secondary level; business education teacher preparation; international business/global business

 

Please follow these guidelines as you develop your manuscript.

  • The length of the manuscript is between 5,000 - 8,000 words including the title page, abstract, and body. References and Appendices are not included in the word limit.
  • References and in-text citations are formatted using APA 7. The References are single-spaced with a space between each reference.
  • There is a Title Page submitted separately as a Word document. The Title Page includes: title, names, position titles, affiliations, email addresses of all authors, date, and name of the corresponding author.
  • On the Title Page, if appropriate, include an acknowledgment statement for agencies that assisted with authorship or research funding.
  • On the Title Page, include this statement, “This manuscript has not already been published, and it is not under consideration by another journal.”
  • There is a single-spaced abstract that describes your study at a glance and has a maximum word count of 150.
  • There are 4-7 keywords in the abstract.
  • If institutional review board approval was required and obtained, state that in the manuscript.
  • Tables and figures are included in-text and formatted in APA 7.
  • The manuscript is submitted in Microsoft Word.
  • The manuscript is double-spaced with 1” margins.
  • Pay attention to sentence structure, logic and comprehension, flow, word choice, spelling, punctuation, and grammar.
  • There is an in-text citation for each Reference. 

Make sure your uploads have personal identifications removed. 

To ensure the integrity of anonymous peer-review, every effort should be made to prevent the identities of the authors and reviewers from being known to each other. This involves the authors, editors, and reviewers (who upload documents as part of their review) checking to see if the following steps have been taken with regard to the text and the file properties:

  • The authors of the document have deleted their names from the text, with "Author" and year used in the references and footnotes, instead of the authors' name, article title, etc.
  • The authors of the document have removed personal information from the file properties by taking the following steps:
    • Microsoft Word for Windows:
      • Go to File
      • Select Info
      • Click on Check for Issues
      • Click on Inspect Document
      • In the Document Inspector dialog box, select the check boxes to choose the type of hidden content that you want inspected.
      • Click Remove All
      • Click Close
      • Save the document
    • Microsoft Word for MacOS:
      • Go to Tools
      • Click Protect Document
      • Select Remove personal information for this file on save
      • Click OK and save the file
    • PDF:
      • Go to File
      • Select Properties
      • Remove any name in the author field
      • Click OK
      • Save the document

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
  • The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
  • Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
  • The file has been anonymized for blind review.
  • All illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
  • The text adheres to the formatting, stylistic, and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Privacy Statement

Updated 9/12/2022 - Protecting your private information is our priority. This Statement of Privacy applies to NBEA.org and National Business Education Association and governs data collection and usage. For the purposes of this Privacy Policy, unless otherwise noted, all references to National Business Education Association include NBEA.org, NBEA, Association for Business Teaching and Research or the National Business Education Honor Society. By using the NBEA website, you consent to the data practices described in this statement.

Collection of your Personal Information
In order to better provide you with products and services offered on our Site, NBEA may collect personally identifiable information, such as your:

- First and Last Name
- Mailing Address
- E-mail Address
- Phone Number
- Employer
- Job Title
- other information that helps segment and serve the NBEA membership.

If you purchase NBEA's products and services, we collect billing and credit card information. This information is used to complete the purchase transaction.

NBEA may also collect demographic information from its members, which is not unique to you, such as your:

- Household Income
- Education level

Please keep in mind that if you directly disclose personally identifiable information or personally sensitive data through NBEA's public message boards or community, this information may be collected and used by others.

We do not collect any personal information about you unless you voluntarily provide it to us. However, you may be required to provide certain personal information to us when you elect to use certain products or services available on the Site. These may include: (a) registering for an account on our Site; (b) entering a contest sponsored by us or one of our partners; (c) signing up for special offers from selected third parties; (d) sending us an email message; (e) submitting your credit card or other payment information when ordering and purchasing products and services on our Site. We will use your information for, but not limited to, communicating with you in relation to services and/or products you have requested from us. We also may gather additional personal or non-personal information in the future.

Use of your Personal Information
NBEA collects and uses your personal information to operate its website(s) and deliver the services you have requested.

NBEA may also use your personally identifiable information to inform you of other products or services available from NBEA and its affiliates.

Sharing Information with Third Parties
NBEA does not sell, rent or lease its customer lists to third parties.

NBEA does use contracted third parties to provide services to its members such as the library, community and career sites. Those organization are prohibited from using your data for their commercial purposes without your consent, and NBEA's approval. 

NBEA is an official Settlor in the Trust for Insuring Educators (TIE) which is a non-profit organization founded to provide educators with economical insurance options and receive available discounts.  TIE operates on strict terms of compliance with insurance regulation.  NBEA will share your general contact information with TIE in order to make you aware of the benefits you have by being associated with NBEA and thus TIE.  TIE honors unsubscribe requests in the event you don't want to receive additional messaging from them.

NBEA may, from time to time, contact you on behalf of external business partners about a particular offering that may be of interest to you. In those cases, your unique personally identifiable information (e-mail, name, address, telephone number) is transferred to the third party. NBEA may share data with trusted partners to help perform statistical analysis, send you email or postal mail, provide customer support, or arrange for deliveries. All such third parties are prohibited from using your personal information except to provide these services to NBEA, and they are required to maintain the confidentiality of your information.

NBEA will share your information with organizations or NBEA councils that you procure membership benefits from.  NBEA may also share your information with its affiliated regional organizations.  

NBEA may disclose your personal information, without notice, if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on NBEA or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of NBEA; and/or (c) act under exigent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of NBEA, or the public.

Tracking User Behavior
NBEA may keep track of the websites and pages our users visit within NBEA, in order to determine what NBEA services are the most popular. This data is used to deliver customized content and advertising within NBEA to customers whose behavior indicates that they are interested in a particular subject area.

Automatically Collected Information
Information about your computer hardware and software may be automatically collected by NBEA. This information can include: your IP address, browser type, domain names, access times and referring website addresses. This information is used for the operation of the service, to maintain quality of the service, and to provide general statistics regarding use of the NBEA website.

Use of Cookies
The NBEA website may use "cookies" to help you personalize your online experience. A cookie is a text file that is placed on your hard disk by a web page server. Cookies cannot be used to run programs or deliver viruses to your computer. Cookies are uniquely assigned to you, and can only be read by a web server in the domain that issued the cookie to you.

One of the primary purposes of cookies is to provide a convenience feature to save you time. The purpose of a cookie is to tell the Web server that you have returned to a specific page. For example, if you personalize NBEA pages, or register with NBEA site or services, a cookie helps NBEA to recall your specific information on subsequent visits. This simplifies the process of recording your personal information, such as billing addresses, shipping addresses, and so on. When you return to the same NBEA website, the information you previously provided can be retrieved, so you can easily use the NBEA features that you customized.

NBEA secures your personal information from unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. NBEA uses the following methods for this purpose:

Children Under Thirteen

You will be able to connect your NBEA account to third party accounts. BY CONNECTING YOUR NBEA ACCOUNT TO YOUR THIRD PARTY ACCOUNT, YOU ACKNOWLEDGE AND AGREE THAT YOU ARE CONSENTING TO THE CONTINUOUS RELEASE OF INFORMATION ABOUT YOU TO OTHERS (IN ACCORDANCE WITH YOUR PRIVACY SETTINGS ON THOSE THIRD PARTY SITES).
